Deborah Eckland and Matt Nelson represented a masonry contractor in a personal injury lawsuit brought by a demolition company worker. While walking the site prior to beginning work, the worker somehow managed to cause a 3,000 lb. vault door to fall. The masonry contractor had removed the door from its hinges and left it leaning securely against the wall until such time as a new opening had been cut in the wall through which the vault door could be removed. When the door fell, it crushed the worker’s leg and foot, requiring amputation. It was our position that the accident was 100% the fault of the worker. Goetz & Eckland was able to negotiate a confidential settlement to the satisfaction of the parties.
